Every milestone in childcare is a building block that helps your child’s development. From learning to follow routines to becoming more independent, childcare gives children the chance to grow and thrive.

When the right support is in place, balancing work, family, and childcare becomes that bit easier.

To get ready for January 2026, here’s what to do:

  1. Check what support you could get
Use the https://www.beststartinlife.gov.uk/school-readiness on the Best Start in Life website.
  2. Apply online
If you’re eligible, apply for your code via GOV.UK. You’ll need this code to access your funded hours.
  3. Apply by 31 December 2025
To start using your hours from 1 January 2026, make sure you apply before the deadline.
  4. Speak to your childcare provider
Confirm that they offer funded hours and check their arrangements.
  5. Keep your code up to date
Reconfirm your details every 3 months through your GOV.UK account. You’ll get a reminder when it’s time.
  6. Make sure you renew your code

Check that you have renewed your code within the time scale childcare support checker.( if you don’t renew your code on time you will not qualify for the 30 funded hours)
